How to Choose a Mentor

by Anna Kruse

One of the most important things in our photography career is education. Education is what will help us grow in our career as a professional photographer. The first question you may want to ask yourself is, what specifically are you wanting to grow in, could be learning your camera settings, editing or the business side of photography. There is so much that it can be overwhelming. One of the greatest things about this industry is that there are so many amazing photographers that teach in all topics.

Now, how do you choose the right one for you?

Choosing a mentor is very similar to how our clients choose a photographer, there are so many important factors that will help guide you in making a wise investment that will help you grow to be the photographer you dream to be for yourself and your clients.

The first important factor is deciding where you want to grow. Do you want to focus on editing? Client workflow? or how to make your business profitable and searching for a mentor that provides that or more.

Second, your budget, we all have a budget and there is no shame in that. If there is mentor that you love and is above your price range, its good to ask if they offer a payment plan. Investing in your education is so vital and you want to feel secure in your investment.

Every mentor is different and all provide so many different tools for you add to your tool box! Make sure they are the right one for you.
